Off To Canada Eh?

Flights Booked? Check
Canadian Dollars? Check.
Warm Clothes? Check.
Anti-Bear Repellent? ...Damn. I knew I forgot something.

That's right! I am off to Canada in no less than 22 hours and 20 minutes, not that I'm counting or anything. Excitement is starting to get to creep in as I find myself turning into something of an emotional schoolgirl. That and my unusually high sugar levels due to vast amount of tea consumption this morning.

But don't get me wrong, until 2 weeks ago even I had no idea I was travelling to Canada. The beauty of spontaneity eh? After speaking to one of my friends - who is currently doing a year out in Canada and has recently finished his job (ski lift operator) due to the season change - he offered me a trip I could not refuse. A week in Banff, free accommodation, seeing a place of incredible natural beauty, and a chance to see some bears!

Okay so I am a bit skeptical aboot (Sorry, last one) the last point but all in all it seems like an experience that I couldn't miss out on. So there I was, 2 weeks away from a once in a lifetime trip and all I had to do was book some cheap flights. If you are planning to fly anywhere I suggest shopping around a bit to find the best possible deal. Using Skyscanner I found a flight for £830 from Birmingham which I was almost tempted by, this was until I found a direct flight from Gatwick using Canadian Affair for £620. Over 200 quid saved! Even including the extra 2  hour drive and using a airport car park for a week I still finished quids in, and on a faster flight. Win.

After seeing some of the pictures of Banff I was strongly considering buying a decent camera to take with me, just to do justice to some of the places I'd be visiting. Phone cameras are good for fun little shots but for landscape photos you need something a little more practical. But sadly after spending money on flights it would be a bit an expensive month if I was to purchase a camera too, nor can I justify buying a camera for the sake of a week long trip. Oh well. I will have to steal my friends camera instead, I'm sure he won't mind.

So there it is; a week hiking, canoeing, biking, and avoiding the occasional bear. Seriously though. Bears. Hopefully I return in a week and report what I get up to, if not, you know why.

Do You need Professional Marketing Qualifications?

We are digital marketing agency, specialising in digital marketing strategy. Sometimes we are at the edge of our knowledge with the campaigns that we build. Sometimes the client asks for campaigns that we don't think are going to work. We find it incredibly useful to look at campaigns from a pure marketing view, even if the channel we are using is digital.

There are many digital agencies and digital marketing consultants who give out bad advice and there and many that give out good advice. We find that when we engage with a new customer they have been touched somehow by an agency already and they may have been told a myriad of things.

SEO doesn't work, SMS is old hat, augmented reality is just a gimmick - some examples , we also clients who really have been left confused by their agency - they don't understand the terminology, the technology or how to measure results.

Here at Sharpmonkeys we base everything on sound marketing principles - really going back to basics, the right product, at the right price, in the right place and promoted in the right way. The 4p's - ok we might extend it a bit for the digital age - the 8 p's work for us. But the fact is, there is a model to base sound marketing on.

I have been pleasantly surprised in the last two weeks - I have been lucky enough to be involved in two high level strategic meetings with client companies. The basic models used in these meetings were SWOT and AIDA. Lovely, back to basics marketing stuff.

So, do you need professional marketing qualifications to get ahead and provide a good service in this digital age? I think you do - even if you learn the basic principles - technology is the enabler, don't get blinded by science or smoke and mirrors.

Book a marketing course or take a series of marketing courses - through our partner Professional Academy. We have a 100% pass rate - how can you say no?

If you really want your career in digital to soar - look at the diploma in digital marketing - I know how good it is, I teach it!
